Some of you may remember that we ran a competition back at the start of the year, during pantomime season. Naturally the Dobies favourite is Jack and the Beanstalk so …
I smell the blood of a gardening man.
He looked in the packet and shook his head
“Why have Dobies sent me beans?” he said
Dobies sent the beans as we wanted customers to have a go at growing them and then to send in their photos. And we weren’t disappointed! We’ve received some wonderful runner bean photos – a huge thank you to everyone who took part.
It was tricky to decide on a winner but the combination of a great photo and a fab verse did the trick.
So, our prize goes to Rebecca and Ryan Henson of Towcester. They’ve won a real gold coin from the giant’s lair – a sovereign.
And Rebecca and Ryan’s verse?
When Granddad opened his seed pack,
He found a present there, from Jack.
Rebecca and Ryan, they set the seeds
And Granddad kept them free from weeds.
They soon were climbing up the sticks
And now they reach thirteen feet six.
They didn’t quite get to the cloud
Where giants roam with thunder loud.
They did their best to reach the skies
And we do hope they’ll win a prize.
(They are 13 feet actually but that didn’t rhyme.
Just like in the pantomime!)
And the response from Dobies?
At the beginning of the year a competition we did run
To grow the longest bean – we felt it would be fun.
Many lovely customers took up our quest
But one stood out head and shoulders above the rest
With a photo as proof and a poem to set the scene,
Granddad (Rebecca & Ryan) had grown a magnificent bean
Although the beanstalk did not quite reach the skies
We are very happy to proclaim you winner of our golden prize.
OK, OK, we’ll stop with the rhymes! Thank you Rebecca, Ryan and Granddad for taking part and thank you to everyone who sent in a photo. We’ve included some of favourites below.
